André Glucksmann was a French philosopher, activist and writer. His parents were Ashkenazi Jewish from Austria-Hungary. He was a member of the French new philosophers that supported protest movements in 1960s and later stood against communist regimes in the Eastern Europe. He wrote plenty of books, for example Dostoevsky in Manhattan or the latest (2014) Voltaire counter-attacks.
